JERSEY CITY MURAL ARTS PROGRAM, 2017
JERSEY CITY MURAL ARTS PROGRAM, 2017

Triple Crown, Mural Commission
NJCMAP / City of Jersey City / Jersey City, NJ

We were recently invited to create a version of our Triple Crown image by the City of Jersey City for their curated Mural Arts Program. We agreed to retire the image in style for them. We were happy with the sharpness and level of detail we were able to achieve on what was a highly textured and challenging surface. Though more difficult, we decided to paint the 35’ x 32’, piece entirely by brush because spray painting the light background colors we proposed using would have made the piece far more suseptible to fading over time.

Change Things, Mural Commission
Welling Court Mural Project / Ad Hoc Art / Queens, NY

We were recently invited to participate in the 2017 Welling Court Mural Festival, an annual invitation-only public art project curated by Garrison Buxton of Ad Hoc Art. The 22’ x 22’, spray and brush painted piece we created is the first in a new body of work. The piece explores how gender roles are changing in popular culture. The concept behind Change Things, was to transform an overtly masculine comic book icon (Thing) into a portrait and ultimately, a celebration of, an equally stereotypical female cartoon/comic culture icon—Cinderella.

We joined forces with the Maxwell Colette Gallery to created this outdoor piece on the acclaimed Violet Hour Cocktail Lounge in Wicker Park, Chicago. We initially prepared and hand painted the paper panels which were then assembled on location as a large-scale wheat paste. The saying “You and Me” introduced the concept of the interaction that takes place between viewer and the artwork on the street.

This challenging surface required additional planning and time allocation due to its dimensionality and distortive qualities. We chose bright colors to draw additional attention to the rooftop from the adjacent Standard Hotel and Whitney Museum buildings.

SUGARLIFT GALLERY, 2015

Triple Crown, Mural Commission
Sugarlift Gallery / Brooklyn, NY

We were asked to paint one of the main outer walls on the gallery during the 2015 Bushwick Open Studios Festival. By only applying white paint to the building, we were able to utilize the existing color of the building to create a piece that integrated seamlessly with the existing structure.

THE CITY OF BASEL, 2015

Find Wildness, Mural Commission
City of Basel / Art Stübli Gallery / Basel, Switzerland

The city of Basel invited us to create a 70’ long, 7 billboard, ad takeover during the 2015 Art Basel Festival. “Find Wildness” was spelled out over the entire length of the piece. The title created a nod to the idea of taking back the advertising space as well as the ASVP solo show, taking place under the same name, at the nearby Artstübli Gallery

THE VIOLET HOUR, 2012

You and Me, Mural Commission
Maxwell Colette Gallery / The Violet Hour / Chicago, IL

We joined forces with the Maxwell Colette Gallery to created this outdoor piece on the acclaimed Violet Hour Cocktail Lounge in Wicker Park, Chicago. We initially prepared and hand painted the paper panels which were then assembled on location as a large-scale wheat paste. The saying “You and Me” introduced the concept of the interaction that takes place between viewer and the artwork on the street.

Future Cop, Mural Commission
Vandalog / Little Italy Street Art Project / New York, NY

Curated by Vandalog’s RJ Rushmore and Wayne Rada, we were invited to participate in The Little Italy Street Art Project in 2012. We created a roughly 4’ X 6’ piece which was then hand finished and collaged together. The mission of The L.I.S.A. Project is to bring a diverse group of artists together to create what, at the time, was Manhattan’s first mural arts district.
